An electrician's day starts with coffee, a tool bag, and the quiet hope that today's "quick little fix" is actually quick and little. It rarely is.
The first stop might be a bathroom light that only works when the fan is off, the moon is full, and someone jiggles the switch just right. The second stop could be a panel that has been labeled with helpful notes like "stuff," "more stuff," and "do not touch maybe."
By midmorning, the troubleshooting brain is fully awake. Electricians spend a surprising amount of time being electrical detectives, except the clues are warmer than they should be and occasionally hiding behind drywall.
Then comes the EV charger service call. Simple plan: install the charger, test the circuit, make the homeowner happy. Instead, the cable route reveals a tiny crime scene. A squirrel had chewed through the wiring like it was auditioning for a home-improvement show called This Old Snack. The charger was innocent. The panel was innocent. The squirrel, judging by the tooth marks, had fled the scene with confidence and probably a mild copper aftertaste.
The suspect
After repairs, testing, labeling, and a final safety check, the charger is working and the homeowner has a new appreciation for wildlife management.
That is the job. Some days are clean installs. Some days are mystery breakers. Some days involve explaining that electricity and squirrels should not collaborate. A good electrician shows up ready for all of it, keeps the work safe, and leaves everything better than they found it.
