Our in-home lighting design consultation puts a master electrician in your home to plan your lighting before anything is bought or installed. It's normally $499, or $199 out of pocket with the $300 coupon. Call (971) 410-7073 to book your consultation. Oregon CCB #226988.
Most lighting problems are planning problems. A single fixture in the middle of the ceiling, a switch on the wrong side of the door, a kitchen counter lit by your own shadow. Fixing those after the drywall is closed is expensive. Fixing them on paper first is not.
What is an in-home lighting design consultation?
It's a visit from our master electrician to design the lighting for your home, room by room. We walk the space with you, talk about how you actually use each room, and plan where fixtures, switches, dimmers, and controls should go. Because the person designing it is an electrician, the plan also accounts for what's behind the walls: your existing circuits, your panel, and how the wiring will get where it needs to go.
The visit covers:
- How each room is used, morning and night
- Fixture types and placement for ambient, task, and accent light
- Brightness and color temperature, so rooms look consistent
- Switch locations, dimmers, and smart controls
- Whether your wiring and panel can support the plan
If you'd like the detail on layers, color temperature, and control systems before you book, our post What to expect from a lighting design consultation goes through it room by room.
Who is it for?
Homeowners planning a remodel are the most common fit, especially kitchens and bathrooms, where light placement depends on cabinets, islands, and mirrors. Our kitchen and bathroom lighting design guide covers the details that matter in those rooms.
It also works well for homeowners who don't have a remodel planned but are tired of dark rooms and want a plan they can carry out all at once or in phases. And it's a good match for older homes, where plaster walls and ceilings make every hole count.
Interior designers and architects are welcome too. If you're drawing the lighting for a client, our master electrician can review your plan or work through it with you on site, so the fixture locations, switching, and dimming you specify can actually be wired in that house.
What happens after the consultation?
You leave with a lighting plan you can act on right away, phase over time, or hand to your contractor or designer. Most homeowners have us install it, since the same team that designed it knows exactly how it should go in. Installation can include recessed LED lighting, pendants and chandeliers, under-cabinet lights, outdoor and patio lighting, dimmers, and smart controls, and we program scenes and keypads ourselves.
If the plan needs more capacity than your home has, we'll tell you plainly and explain whether an electrical panel upgrade belongs in the project. If we find old wiring, we can coordinate knob-and-tube wiring replacement with the lighting work so walls are opened once. New lighting circuits and wiring changes generally need an electrical permit, and as a licensed contractor we pull the permit for the work we install.

Our master electrician, in person at your home. That means the plan accounts for your wiring, circuits, and panel, not just how the fixtures look.
Can you work with my interior designer or architect?
Yes. We can review a designer's or architect's lighting plan, or develop it with them, so what's specified can be wired and controlled the way it's drawn.
